Flowers on Your Tombstone

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

An older poem

"

there are flowers on your tombstone

i don’t know who put them there

i watched as our perfect life unraveled

as what i thouGht we had disappeared

because there are flowers on your tombstone

and i'm not the one who put theM there

you prOposed to me on my 22nd birthday

and i said yes right away

my daddy didn’t appRove of us

but i believed that our love was strong

and that we could overcome any obstAcle

but it turNs out my daddy was right

there are flowers on your tombstone

i don’t know who put them there

you haDn't spoken to your family in years

i was the only family you had

sO who is left to have left those flowers there?
and what did they mean to you?

you've left me second guessing everything

wondering if our love was all a lie

asking myself could i have really been so bliNd?

you took your secrets to your grave

now there are flowers on your tombstone

and i'm not the one who put them there
