Box of Your Things

Box of Your Things

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

It’s been a lonely six months

This bed seems empty without you

I placed your possessions in a box

I told myself I’d donate them

I contemplated leaving

Packing up and moving to another city

A fresh start in a new place

Perhaps it would erase the pain

A part of me wanted to love again

To experience the rush of falling once more

To have the comfort and security

That a relationship would bring to me

It’s been six month since I lost you

So why should I feel guilty

Trying to find some semblance of happiness

With someone other than you

Why are you still the one on my mind

When he’s the one touching me?

Because even after he presented me with a ring

I still kept the box of your things
