Another Second Chance

Another Second Chance

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

You used to be my Superman...

"
There will always be a part of me
That loves you no matter what
A part that wants to believe you
That wants to give you another second chance

You make me empty promises
You claim this time you've really changed
I give in and fall back into you
Only to be let down all over again

But I recall all the times that were good
And I recall the secrets that belong to us alone
We shared a bond than ran deeper than blood
And I thought it was unbreakable

It used to be us against everyone
We used to be an unstoppable force
You used to be my Superman
You were the one who gave me my strength

Now there's an ache in my chest
That only you can heal
And there's a hollowness in my heart
That only you can fill

There's nothing that I want more
Than to give you another second chance
But I can't trust your intentions
The ones I never used to question

The next time I won't break
I'm so fragile that I'll shatter
A million tiny pieces scattered about
Too far gone to ever be rebuilt

There will always be a part of me
That wants to forgive and forget
But for once love isn't enough
And for once I'm strong enough to refuse
