Shells

Shells

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

There’s sand between our toes

An umbrella over our heads

The sun is shining ever so bright

And children are squealing with delight

We toss a Frisbee back and forth

And have an impromptu volleyball game

Then we build castles in the sand

And stomp them to the ground

We walk the shoreline at sunset

And dip our feet in the ocean

We shriek at how cold the water feels

And dare each other to dive in

We watch the power of the waves

Are in awe of their mighty force

Seagulls swoop down to steal our treats

As we collect shells on the beach

We have sand between our toes

We’ve got nothing holding us back

The ocean is calling to us

For what more could we ask
