Those Four Years

Those Four Years

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

The beginning was slow and sweet

You had to earn my trust

I’ll admit I was a bit hesitant

Because I didn’t want to be hurt again

But when you would kiss me

Everything started to feel alright

And when you would hold my hand

It was like my skin came alive

Those four years were magical

And those four years were beautiful

And I wouldn’t take them back

Not if I had the chance

Just because something ends

That doesn’t mean that it wasn’t worth it

And just because it’s over now

That doesn’t mean that I regret it

I’m thankful for the time I was given

All the laughs I shared with you

I don’t think I ever stopped smiling

And I still do now when I pause and reminisce

You were a wonderful chapter in my life

Some people may call our love a tragedy

But I would tell them they are wrong

Because you made me believe again

Well the finale came far too soon

But I appreciated every moment I was granted

Those four years I will always remember

And those four years I will always treasure
