I Love You Anyway

I Love You Anyway

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

I miss making you laugh
And roll your eyes in exasperation
I miss making you smile
And being the bane of your existence

You never could stand me
Yet somehow you still loved me
I was always messing everything up
But you'd be there to help me clean it up

People would say that our relationship
Was incredibly dysfunctional
But I never saw it that way
For us it's just the way it works

You and I are polar opposites
We're headed off in separate directions
But I miss looking up to you
And following you around like a lost puppy

I relied on you to carry me
To always be there to protect me
And even when I screw everything up
You say "I love you anyway"

You say "even though you can be a pain
I'd never trade you away
Because at the end of every day
You're the one I want by my side"
