Avalanche

Avalanche

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

Most of my poems are about a specific person but this one regards several people who have been part of my life.

"

We are a distant memory

A sandcastle washed away by the tide

We are snowflakes falling down

Lost once we hit the ground

We’re a picture in a frame

Taken down from the wall

Hidden in the back of the closet

Buried beneath a pile of forgotten things

The ink dried long ago

The paper blew away with the wind

My grip on the string slipped

And the balloon floated away

Our history has been documented

In hundreds of stanzas

You can read every painstaking detail

Just in case you wanted to remember

We’re a picture in a frame

But you dropped it and broke the glass

We’re a sandcastle on the beach

But we got stomped on by a kid

We are a distant memory

Our balloon got popped

We were climbing a slippery slope

And got buried beneath the avalanche
