Found (2011)

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

For me the year started in the summer

That’s when the changes began

When I had new responsibilities

And something that made me proud

I wore my badge like one of honor

Slowly adapted to my first real taste

Of what this world has to offer

Outside of the narrow space I’d grown up in

Late that August saw my first day

As a college girl on campus

I was nervous but didn’t breakdown

I felt like I’d finally been found

Every decision I’ve made

Has led me to this place

I wouldn’t take any of them back

I took off running, never looked back

In that little shop I grew so much

The plans I’d laid crumbled to dust

But I picked myself back up

Even though at times it was rough

The summer would mark the end

Of my days locked in my own hell

And that summer would mark the beginning

Of a marvelous transformation

Well, this is great! I love reading a poem with a happy ending! I'm a big fan of working storytelling into any artistic medium possible, and you've competently delivered such an experience with this fine poem. Keep up the good work and always remember that the secret to improvement is to practice your craft.
