How This Story Goes

How This Story Goes

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

I let myself believe in you again...

"

I know how this story goes

I’ve been down this road

Dozens of times previously

And it always ends the very same way

You tell me you love me

Unconditionally and forever

You wrap me in your bear arms

And I let myself believe in you again

For a while it’s like old times

And they warn me you’ll change your mind

You’ll get bored or afraid

And then you’ll give up and turn your back

I know how this story goes

I defend you, tell them they’re wrong

That your love for me is real

But it even sounds false to my ears

This is how our story goes

I’m about to go down this road once more

But unlike you my promises are ones I keep

And my promise is this is your last chance
