A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

You're impossible to reach
And even harder to keep
I wait in this line forever
But it's never my turn

You've encased yourself in stone
You'd rather be all alone
But I would give anything
If I could be your home

This tough routine's an act
To protect yourself from attack
You distance yourself from me
Because I know what lies beneath

I know what you don't want them to see
Who you are when you're free
And I never once judged you
But you're so critical of me

Was I just another mistake?
Was being with me a chore?
I thought you loved me
I thought we had something

You're impossible to reach
And you I couldn't keep
You encased yourself in stone
And left me all alone
