Castles Built of Sand

Castles Built of Sand

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

The real reason is much sadder...Someone she wishes didn't matter...

"
They say she's a skeptic
She claims she's realistic
They never stopped to consider
Why she is the way she is

They don't know she gave it a try
And was left on the road to die
And she believed in fairytales
But her castle was built of sand

Yes she was hopeful once
And she knew how to trust
But years of not being enough
Crumpled her will to dust

The cause isn't what you think
It isn't about some stupid boy
The real reason is much sadder
Someone she wishes didn't matter

She thinks if he wasn't capable
Of loving her without condition
Then how can she expect any man
To love her with them?

They tell her not to give up
She just hasn't found the right one
But no one else can put back together
The fragile hope he shattered

Because she lost all sense of trust
And her heart started to rust
Because she believed in fairytales once
But castles built of sand don't last
