A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

Everywhere I look I see you

On the cover of a pop culture magazine

On a billboard advertising white teeth

That actor on that TV show

In every man walking down by street

Everywhere I go I hear you

Whey your favorite song plays on the radio

In the whisper of the wind

At night when I'm falling asleep

On those voicemails I can't bring myself to delete

I can still smell your cologne on your shirts

Sometimes i wear them to bed

WIshing that your side wasn't so cold

Wanting to feel your arms incircle me

To fall sleep with  your breath tickling my neck

I kept that dog that you adored

Even though he never liked me

We've becomes allies in your death

It's like coming home to a piece of you

Now he's old and I don't know what I'll do when he's gone

I'll miss the sound of your laughter

The way your eyes crinkle when you smile

I'll forever miss your two left feet

How our bodies fit together like puzzle pieces

I even miss your scractchy beard that I begged you to shave

I never thought I'd be a widow at 26

Cancer isn't something you can plan on

Death isn't something you can solve

You were always trying to fix everything

The only thing you couldn't fix was you
