To Know A Broken Heart

To Know A Broken Heart

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

I thought I knew a broken heart

I couldn't have been more wrong

I thought it was painful when I was fifteen

That was nothing compared to this

No one has the power to hurt me

The way that you do

You raised me as your own

Then turned your back on me

I've weathered violent storms

I thought I'd made it through the worst

But there was no rainbow waiting for me

Only another wanting to break me

Now I know what it means

To suffer from a broken heart

You taught me what it feels like

To struggle to piece it back together

You express the pain and sorrow from a broken heart so skillfully, emotion just flows through this whole poem. The part where it says that you and him raised kids and they turned their back on you struck me with awe, just the thought of that is plain haunting. Well done
