To You

To You

A Poem by Mandy Amanda
"

For my biological father who passed away from pancreatic cancer

"
You helped give me life, you gave me your strength,
I have few memories of you, yet I yearn to see you again.
You fought cancer the best you could, you stood with a zero count of blood,
Yet the one thing I know of you is your a fighter.
I never knew you like I wanted to, but I know from stories of the qualities you held
I too hold those qualities that you had.
Now I must learn how to control my drinking once I start, I must learn more of how strong you were,
I must be your child with how much I am like you.
You passed away, nothing could be done,
I cried after I saw you last before you passed, you were on a hospital bed,
I never went to the funeral, I saw your grave and felt better.
You are a fighter, an animal lover, a hands on worker, you were an alcoholic,
yet no matter what mean things are said about you,
You are my biological father, and I love you for giving me up.
No person is truly bad if they can give up their own flesh and blood,
when it truly counts.
Any one who gives up their child for adoption if they have a problem with drinking or drugs,
must have some right mind if they do what's right.
I still love you.

Author's Note

Mandy Amanda
I just needed to write about my biological father who passed away from cancer when he was 44 years old. He was an alcoholic and gave me up so I could have a better life.
