Loving the Numb

Loving the Numb

A Poem by Hanna McGivern
"

I love the way 'Lolita' sounds on the tongue in the book. I find the same effect with the word 'lorazepam'. This is a poem based around the 'feel' of a drug.

"

Loving the Numb

Your deadening caress

lulls my senses.

Sweet submission.

I crave your

bitter ways,

empty promises.

I am an addict to the

seductive sound you make

as I shake gently.

You never stay for long.

Close my sated eyes.

Scattered thoughts

pulsing.

I need to feel you.

Place your paleness on my tongue.

I taste your sour secrets.

Lie me down and whisper.

Sacrilegious.

Your warmth saturates

me, a monsoon in May.

You make me weak.

Together we are numb.

Don’t cushion my fall,

I can’t feel you.

Just as we both intended.
