Road Most Taken

Road Most Taken

A Poem by New Dawn

I wanted to walk

the less travelled road,

the 'grass in the middle' path

that Frost had signposted

for the more discerning traveller.

So I turned away

from the highways,

from the well - trodden

routes of my parents

and sought out

that uneven, obscure

meandering track

in hope of a different life.

Imagine then my grief

at finding it overcrowded,

that rutted, muddy lane

knee deep

with intrepid 'Frostites'

who, with equal fervour,

had set upon

the same pilgrimage,

each seeking their own

less travelled road

and causing much congestion

in the process.

Heh, I love the imagery of a pilgrimage for the untrodden which, of course, leads to nothing but a virgin field despoiled by sight-seers. It's a bit of "the tragedy of the commons". If you prize discovery, and reward people for reaching and conquering far-flung lands then, why, eventually everywhere will be colonised and there will be no new faces to meet.

thank you so much
I agree with your words. I like the road less traveled. Some places hard to think with too many people rushing to places without thinking. I enjoyed the story and I like the ending to the excellent poem.
