Buoys Upon the Tide

Buoys Upon the Tide

"
You drew a heart for me in the sand once
but the tide came in and washed it away.
I said sincerely, "That won't happen to us."
-Knowing fully that one day it would.

I still remember clearly then
kissing as the waves
slapped the sides of our faces,
laughing as we swallowed mouthfuls of salt
while an old couple watched
from the shoreline reminiscing
days of their former youth.

You said, one day I shall be your wife
and I mischievously smiled and said "We shall see."
Life was much simpler then
and dreams were considered reality.

And I shall always love you
when innocence once circled your eyes,
and I shall always remember when
we were two buoys upon the tide.
