Sufficient Unto Me

Sufficient Unto Me

A Poem by Helena

~ Sufficient Unto Me ~

They could show me the rivers of paradise

but that would be nothing if your love ceased to flow

The cool of the palm trees would not ease the burning oasis of my soul

If you went from my life…

They could show me the footprints of the prophets

But if you did not run towards me I would be lost in the desert sands

I could smell the sweetest rose in the world

But its scent would fade if I could not sense you near me...

They could give me all the gold in the world

But one ounce I would not take if I was never to see you again

They could hand me the sun in my left hand and the moon in my right

But even that couldn’t console me without my beloved by my side...

They could offer me the whole universe and say it is mine,

But I would refuse because I already have it...

You are my paradise, my sheltering palm tree, my poet of sweet words

My scent of a rose, my sun and moon...

My night and day...

Everything I want and have ever wanted

That is sufficient unto me.

helen, your words are breathtaking, I mean phenomonal, you have completely captivated the moment with sincere effect and beauty that ligners and flows and permiates the essence of core loveliness, I could lose
myself in the absolute, as I am sure every reader who has come across your enchanting words have done,
no doubt you will always be the poetess Of enchantment~ whose heart flows from a wellspring naturally
joined to an everlasting muse of inspiration, defining devotion through a golden metaphorical persepctive

Beautiful, nothing matters more than the person next to you
and a a wonderful poem to express that

VEry beautiful piece. I love the way you showed the dept of your love for this person. How nothing really mattered without the love of the other person. The poem was very much consistent and well constructed. I especially like the line:

They could show me the footprints of the prophets
But if you did not run towards me I would be lost in the desert sands.

This is by far one of the most beautiful poems I have read on this site. Excellent read! Keep exercising your beautiful gift!

What I love about your poetry, besides the rich imagery and the powerful rhythms, is the way you are able to elicit an emotional response from your readers. You are darn good, my darn good friend!

This was beautifully romantic. Everyone hopes for someone like this to enter their lives, and some get that. This made me think of a friend of mine... Great job.
