You came of your own free will, the cattle call A place to soothe phantom depressions Gathering shells to fend off every day, imagining this is perfect reality She understands more than you will ever know About desperation and desire Lulling the pigs to sleep with deft fingers Then pulling them into deaths cradle The emotion is there, don't doubt that Pushing and pulling, lunar commands not barked but whispered And when the thin blue veil washes over her prey, her lovers Her belly still aches with a vastness that can never be filled Scream if you can, spurn her advances One thing is for certain It's time to feed the crabs
I didn't look at your description before I read and I thought, who is this creepy Gothel type chick doing this? Then I reread, after knowing the theme, and you do create a tidelike rhythm in the stanza... I was reminded of some of Neruda's more fantastical relational metaphors for this very subject. The pigs are the most interesting detail for me.
There's something brutally beautiful and prophetic about this incantation of a poem, as it seems to me. There is an overwhelmingly profound solemnity breathing all-wise throughout and the language is awe-inspiring in reflection of the Nature it describes. It personifies the sea with a real sense of uncomprehending power, expressing the un-knowable somehow. The ending is in such contrast to the laced lyricism of the rest that it gives a sharp pang of finality in sound and feeling. Almost like finishing with black humour.
Quality piece of fully engaging poetry.
yes, it's true, the sleepy sea can suddenly grab your full focus as it steals the safe sand from your hope of shore...you can't get that fun park ride for a quarter...losing control of your life on this voluntary vacation you paid premium pesos for is infinitely more exciting than losing your heart to that promised kiss which like a life preserver in the choppy surf remains there, oh there, just out of reach...nothing like a good shake to keep you alert for a day or two, don't you know
Like to hang out with other writers and see what's what. Have met a lot of good people on this and other sites through the years. Decided to come back and do a little posting and reading. Hit me up i.. more..
