Prologue

 

They almost have it. It’s doubtful that the truth will be reached within the next few centuries. But we hope they keep trying.
     Religion strives to feel it. Science is missing only a few pieces. Together they could do something wonderful. But we can’t tell them. We can’t tell them because they have to find it. They have to find us. We are hiding here among them. We experiment, but evolution just hasn't reached the breaking point. Natural selection has been slowed to a crawl.
     The truth isn’t anything special. It’s just more than most are willing to handle. It’s harsh, it’s downright depressing at times, but the struggle to attain it is what makes it worthwhile. We are different, and we push ourselves upon those that we think are ready. But time is running out.

Sometimes we are wrong. Sometimes we are very, very wrong. We are stronger, faster, smarter, but by no means perfect beings either. At times, we wish we could live in your ignorance.

     When we choose to enlighten one, there is no taking that knowledge back. There are times that we have to make cruel sacrifices to keep order. Evil doesn’t stop at intelligence. In our experience, it almost always increases it. Evil is as prevalent among us as it is them.

     The masses are controlled by the few. The few believe they cannot be silenced.

     Our few will keep you from extinction.
