The Awakening of Being

The Awakening of Being

A Poem by icelandicblue

I saw you walk through the raging storm
clothes askew and hair amiss,
but your smile melted all trepidation
and filled the empty void with light.

Each step along this new road is placed
with a determination of spirit,
an ache for life in an unaltered reality,
flesh stronger than the sum of its flaws.

If nothing changes nothing changes,
except a commutation of thought that
can wrap you tight in redemption's embrace,
transcending the call of the siren.

Her whispers will be never ceasing
and you must drown her out with a life
filled with love, truth, purpose and hope .
The seeds have been sown, the planting begun.

May you always be blessed as you toil these fields
with the warmth of the sun and the rain's gentle caress
as they give you comfort and strength,
look to the distance where a joyful harvest of being awaits you.

It is good to find an awaking spirit in your heart. This is the beginning... It seems even better when we realize there is more.

I THANK you very much David.
Such a strong testament to the struggle, and the core that can withstand it.

an ache for life in an unaltered reality,
flesh stronger than the sum of its flaws.

This is so perfectly stated, Blue. One of your best, and clearly from your soul.

It is hard to pick yourself up after an addiction. It is hard for the family and the person who has been addicted and sometimes you feel like your love is not enough but you know, it is, your love and support is all you can do to help right now as well as getting them the help they need. All they can try to do is put one foot in front of the other and hope for the best.

It's not easy at all... actually made it is the hardest thing they will ever do but they will have a supporting family who will be there every step of the way.

So touching Anne.

Thank you Noodle...all we can do is love him the best that we can.
One day at a time. Truly, that is all that can be hoped for. That, and to be strong enough to ignore or dismiss the call of the siren. A poignant write.

Thank you for your thoughts Sharon.

Most excellent expression. The siren's call is sweet but it is a call to death.

Thanks for your comment Pryde.
Perception is King! (and Queen). I was first made aware of attitude spawning reality by reading a book called "Another Roadside Attraction" by Tom Robbins. He wrote a scene where a woman is totally unaffected by the rain downpour she is walking in. People are scurrying all around her, huddling under umbrellas but she continued to stroll along as if the Sun were shining on a perfect day. Your opening lines reminded me of that. I know there is much more to your poem, but that particularly hit me where I live. :)

You're welcome! :)
A touching write about the struggle to rebuild a life damaged by addiction. All they can do is try...put one foot in front of another and walk that road. It isnt going to easy...actually its the hardest thing they will ever do. But we hope and pray they will continue to try each day. Nothing ventured..nothing is gained. Poignant words here Anne. ;-)
