The Taste of Dark Water

The Taste of Dark Water

A Poem by icelandicblue

There is a stillness
when sinking into dark water.
A calm that envelops you
after the storm has passed

and you are spent,
bruised from the dashing of the rocks
and the slaps of the whitecaps,
no longer gasping for air.

Sinking slowly in graceful balletic turns,
time has left with a long list
of others to push toward the shore,
and the relief is immense and welcome.

And through the murky water
there is a sense of clarity
for in all things there is an end
but to truly understand it

we must remember the beauty of how it all began.

Arcturus, Orion, Pleiades ,
Orion The fool ?
A tool,
to bludgeon or build ,
I was as smart as I ever was at 12.
Are there creators beyond ours ?

Thank you David for your kindness always.
It's the last line, which changes a very dark poem, into one, filled with hope and the possibility of better things. Often, when one reaches these depth, they only want a quick and painless death as I have been here, a few times, myself.

....................:)
First poem I've read of yours and I enjoy your style. It's funny, as I re-read this for the second time, Amy Winehouse's album "Back to Black" comes to mind. This would have been a nice intro to the album. I read this as the fact there is a calmness in the despair after the storm. There is beauty in the backstory, the prelude. And peace in the dark aftermath.

Beautifully penned.

Stunning! How surreal the experience is, when one decides no longer to fight, and realizes that death is inevitable, and in that same moment accepts their fate. Congratulations for capturing that feeling so well!

Thanks so much Hampstead Poet,
I appreciate your enthusiastic review.
I could hardly breathe reading this one, seeing the dark side of life sure does make the light more brilliant when it showers us with clarity. You made those dark waters seem almost appealing as only you can do Anne...an affecting read.
