coldplay

A Poem by Christine

in first grade

we went

around

the room

and told

the class

what our

favorite colors

were.

the girls

picked

pink and purple

the boys

picked

blue and red.

picked

jaundice,

the sun,

golden slumbers,

sour lemons,

urine,

and the yellow leaves

falling

in

puddles.

(it looks like they're drowning)

the leaves

were green

when

we drove

around

(we sure got around)

with

the music

your soul

wanted

to sing.

there were "sparks,"

you made me "shiver,"

it was "trouble,"

but "don't panic"

it wasn't

jaundice,

the sun,

golden slumbers,

sour lemons,

or urine;

"it was all yellow."

remember

first grade

when

the

boys

didn't

like

you;

you were

the only one

who liked

yellow.

"we never change, do we?"

(now my favorite color is green)
