Breathe EasyA Poem by ChristineI like youI should tell you that you have me looking forward to 4 AM And for the day you tell me what keeps you from falling asleep Because I get the feeling you don’t lie awake for the f**k of it.
You were the only person to ask what I was thinking And I told you how people disappoint me without revealing too much.
You alluded to bad air still lingering with you When girls left their scent behind, Thick and uninviting like heavy humid nights When mosquitoes coat your skin and suck you dry.
Someday I’ll tell you how I used to breathe in his madness Treating it as if it were oxygen for the longest time.
I should tell you you’ve been a breath of fresh air And I don’t feel as though you could ever inflict The kind of gasping-for-life feeling I had grown accustomed to.
With me you could breathe easy.
