A Sincere Apology

A Sincere Apology

A Poem by Christine

Was it really so naïve to think of you

In the most forgivable terms

Because it gets too hard fighting the urge

To apologize for me.

I find sorry never sits quite well,

Flaccid, gutless, and often misplaced

Except it’s a word that never really gets lost

Like the loose change in your front pocket

You discard in a tip jar

Uncounted.

You think emptying your pockets of all apologies

Means you can cash in your troubles and put your mind at ease

But you miscalculate the value of change.

Here’s a more valuable tip:

Never be sorry without gumption.

Never let something so unencumbered be weighed down with a sorry as heavy as wet denim.

And if you’ve ever had the great pleasure of getting to know me

Let me be the first to say,

My sincerest apologies.

All the words. A very good read.
"Flaccid, gutless, and often misplaced"
Such a good line. Flaccid leads and is as bitter as you get. Gutless is often how it hurts. And misplaced, always too often.
