I really don't want to talk today...

Say what?... Oh Pardon me?
I am so sorry if I didn't say hello...
I just don't feel like talking today...

Would you mind terribly
if I just sit here quietly and listen
intently to your pleasing chatter?

You know, some days I have a need for company
to ease the soul, the ache in my mind
and sweep away my lingering self doubt.

Oh really it is nothing, I promise
my mind is just a little weary
and you are the perfect place to escape.

You always know what to say to make me smile,
you find it somewhere inside me
even when I don think I have one left.

I knew you would understand
Thank you for being my friend
and loving me anyway.

i can relate to this. a day when talking just doesn't feel like the thing to do, but listening to someone else, just being in their company, makes you happy. i have few people around me these days that understand when i have one of these days

I have a couple of really good friend that understand when I don't feel like talking so they talk so that I don't have to and make me smile when my world just doesn't feel right. I think most of us humans can relate to having days like this. when we just don't want to talk but we don't want to be alone either. Great expression in this piece.

I love this! I've so often felt like this myself. Verse 2 in particular struck a chord. I like "pleasing chatter" because it gives a sort of positivity to the poem, a positivity to your silence, that is often lacking in poems like this. The joy of listening! I also identified with "some days I have a need for company". Of course, we all do. And sometimes, we don't... "my mind is just a little weary and you are the perfect place to escape" is a really neat way of encapsulating this. It's a concise, well worded poem which expresses the contradictory socially-anti-social nature of the human beast, without unnecessary elaboration, and in a personal, honest style.
