Dust

Dust

A Poem by MCS

Walking to the top of the outlook

releasing you into the breeze

your ashes lay in an oak box

I’ve kept in my studio

You asked that I carry this out

that you’ve always wanted freedom

you travel in the breeze like smoke

I watched you disappear

I stood for hours lost track of time

watched the light shift and fade

hoping for a sense of you

the breeze carried you, you’re gone

The fog moves in dimming the light further

this fog reminds me of damp limp ghosts

the bleak light is fitting to what I’m feeling

knowing you’re gone is a stone in my chest

Gray drizzle falls like needles

piercing skin bringing back awareness

preparing to leave noticing my hands

stubborn grains of you between my fingers

Bits of you dust my hands

making fists to keep you close

placing my hands over my heart

if only I could beat life back to you

I know this feeling so well, the pain of letting all that remains go - and yet it is their wish..
You have written this so beautifully, bittersweet and beautiful. You have touched my heart with this gorgeous poem.
