better than me

for the times when you doubt everything, especially yourself

ever feel like you're not good enough?

like everyone deserves better than you?

That you're a pathetic person who should always be alone so as not to disappoint others?

like the world would be better without you?

No you're not a bad person,

No you're not repulsive,

No it's not that you don't love enough,

No it's not because you disappoint people.

It is because you can't live without certain people,

You fear the very thought of them leaving,

Which only pushes them further away.

And would do everything to make them stay,

Maybe you're too attached,

Maybe you try too hard,

Maybe you scare people off,

Maybe you're not what they thought you were.

Are you not deserving of love?

Are you supposed to spend eternity alone in cold, icy darkness?

Are you going to be shackled by the thought of loved ones leaving for the rest of your miserable life?

Are you lost?

Perhaps you are,

Perhaps you're not,

Perhaps you'll never know,

Perhaps you're not going to linger long enough to figure it out.

Should you abandon all hope?

Should you avoid all people so as not to suffer the same agonizing heartbreak?

Should you look down at the world so as not to let yourself trip?

Should you lose?

Will you ever be okay again?

Will the sun ever shine from these dark clouds?

Will you ever look up and seize the day?

Will you ever still want to play life's game?

This is the first time I'm posting something I wrote online, I don't know much about writing. Comments and advice on improvement would be much appreciated.

Congrats on sharing your first poem online!! I remember when I started I was really self conscious :) Anyway I really like that these questions are about exploring how we feel about ourselves on a deeper level; and that it explores the idea that sometimes how we feel isn't so cut and dry.
