The Outside

The Outside

A Poem by Isa Ruffatti

The Outside

It is cold outside

They say, come in

But I doubt

I am a stranger in the dark

Outside or Inside

Makes no difference

Just a stranger in the rain

Drowning in the rain

Smile, they say

I fake a smile or two

Small talk is easy

As weightless as a feather

And almost as meaningless

Deep talks are harder

You look into my eyes

I look away, I don’t know why

I am uncomfortable, am I this weird?

Look at me and understand

My struggle, endless fight

Makes no difference

Cold or Hot

Still outside it all

Chills shaking my heart

A new face in the blur

Muster all my bravery

An opportunity dawns

Must I jump for it?

Is it just plain insane?

I melt into the dark
