Broken Man

Broken Man

A Poem by Jack...
"

Once the heart breaks, so does the man

"

Broken man

Shredded letters on the floor

Empty whiskey bottles

Eviction notice on the door

Cruising at full throttle

Not a penny to his name

Longing the impending

No one but himself to blame

Misery unending

This is but a broken man

Pieces crushed and shattered

Love hath left him once again

Upon the wind now scattered

Vices form his prison walls

Slowly closing in

Death to be his last reward

He begs it to begin

This reads like the beginning of the end. Such devastation and hopelessness pour through the spaces between these words. I am hoping he gets up and opens that damn door!

He's gotta find a new key first. Thanks so much Angi.
A short, tragic story...it sounds like a suicide...

It might come to that Marie, you never know.
Pretty stark picture you've painted there...unfortunately it goes that way sometimes. Great work here, Jack...

shredded, eviction notice, crushed, shattered...this poor soul has nothing left

I did...My pleasure...:)
Edgy poem with powerful images. You have accurately described someone I know, and no one can help our broken man until he wants to be helped.

Thanks Debbie. Nice to see you again.
Some wise guy once said "Don't take life so seriously. You'll never get out of it alive"...

I want to cuddle this guy in my arms and give him some cold milk and warm chocolate chip cookies.
That was my Gramma's answer to a broken heart...
And, while it didn't make the problem go away, it did make it feel better, at least for a little while.

Beats the hell out of whiskey bottles, etc...

Great write, Jack.
You made this old lady, veteran of many a broken heart, weep.
