"Like watching paint dry..."

"Like watching paint dry..."

A Poem by Jack...
"

The waiting is the hardest part

"

“Like watching paint dry...”

Layers upon layers,

flaking residue...

scraping at the inner walls of my heart,

priming the ruins of my disassembled dreams while

masking off all hope of bleeding out or bleeding on

“Dare I bleed in the color of missing you?”

Scratches filled in with crayon,

vacant hues...

only on or outside of the lines of love

Woeful stick figures dancing to a lonely song,

played by the empty roller lashed to my hand

“Would you dare touch my handprints....smear them?”

Minutes take hours to pass, but who cares,

Que Sera Sera...

the old Zenith finds Doris Day happy,

nice someone can be

stirring a smile within a gallon of semi-(g)loss

“Why is the sale brand in barren tones?”

I cringe at the thought of another moment in this position,

base boards...

bent over and touching up,

flat lining without an edge,

waiting for your touch, your tinted smile...waiting your approval

“Like watching paint dry...”

Always my pleasure, Jack...
For me - the first and the last stanza were the strongest - they were the parts that made me go WOW, and take another read but the whole poem is this wonderful extended metaphor of introspective love lost and the ache it creates - and the resonant "why" that fills the soul. Loved the "(g)loss - that was brilliant. The way you used the "color" of the paint itself to convey emotion was stellar. Such a creative way to say "I miss you...." Possibly one of your best - but that's just my opinion.

Then let me just say I love your opinion. :) Thank you so much Tammy. I really needed to hear these.. read more
Interesting concepts 'rolled' about in this one Jack, with a touch of 'cryptic-color' to bring focus to the 'under layer of emotion'. Different than the styles you have sent my way, but ever painted beautifully and creating a bit of "Je ne sais pas" with a coating of questions setting the mind to wonder.

Oh, you have outdone yourself here, Jack.
This is powerful.
There are no words for this one.
You have touched the core of me.

Angel my friend, thank you so very much for your kind words.
This has a nice everyday, matter of fact, domestic approach akin to decorating, which draws out the parallel of your longing for love.

My dear, Jack... you don't know how much this has touched me. Am I so transparent that you've been able to grasp so much of me in the little bits of reading and commenting here at the cafe? I felt this to my core, which I think you realized I would as I read it. Not what I had in mind when I made my whimsical comment to write about paint drying, but I am beyond words that you grasped a situation and developed this lovely write.

The texture, the pauses, just everything is so wonderfully written.

Sigh.. tears are flowing again. However, with a smile too. You've painted a masterpiece that I will cherish. Thank you!
