Might we

Might we

A Poem by Jack...
"

So many possibilities

"

Might we…

Might we…

pass on a sidewalk framed by clearance sales

and hot dog vendors

Smiling as to take our attention,

brand our thoughts cosmetically,

alter our daydreams to cast a glow

amidst the haze that is this destiny

Might we…

stand on lonely platforms

watching the smoke in the distance

as the 5:00 o’clock

Sunset Liner approaches

with a full head of steam

distracting our eyes with a forgotten whistle tone

Might we…

whisper meandering thoughts

of great importance on the wind,

wishing them a safe journey

and hoping these words, our love sick phrases

reach the heart of another

sitting in the crowd all alone

Might we…

find if we look beyond the past

covering the darkness

with twinkle lights and glass ornaments,

filling the branches of the future with hope,

that desired happiness

springs from its roots

Might we…

dream of cosmic realities in floral dance steps

on kaleidoscope stairways

winding through our thoughts

delivering us to the floor

just above where our eyes meet

Might we

live in and around long distance shadows

and typed conversations,

dipping into the vast vocabulary

waiting patiently to be shared

between our hearts

Might we…

love

Simply delightful Jack. Might we... sigh. So many beautiful moments of romance captured pursuing love in each stanza. Vivid imagery; you paint lovely word pictures that any reader can appreciate. Lovely depth of feeling. Excellent closing stanza, that touches the heart. Well penned and a most enjoyable read. Write on!

You sir are on a roll, this one spoke to me Jack for it could be interpreted as whispers on the wind to unknown strangers. The last two parts are questions I'm quite familiar with in their asking, but the poem on the whole could have been written by me, at least in sentiment. Well done.

P.S. I think there is a typo in "with a full head of stream" where "stream" should be "steam".

You're welcome.
This reminds me of the phrase 'if wishes were horses.......' It is strange what Aloneness does to the soul as it allows us to attach ourselves to each passing hope and fantasy. This piece begs that question and is eloquent in its simplicity.

Thanks so much John. I appreciate your comments, always so kind.
You've got a lot of great imagery in this one, the kind that suggests a love that yearns for completion. I think your first stanza was really strong in that area, and a great way to lead off this piece. These lines made me smile: "Might we…/pass on a sidewalk framed by clearance sales/and hot dog vendors." That is a great way to set your scene.

Your second stanza, combined with the meaning of smoke, was very moving for me as well. It shows how lonely these places of waiting are, how much better it would be if those two people were together.

With lines that express such emotion, like these: "live in and around long distance shadows
and typed conversations," you show the poetic skill you have.

You spoke to my heart with this one.
