The Miles In Between

The Miles In Between

A Poem by Jack...
"

Why are there always miles

"

The Miles In Between

A crescent moon now overhead

As I come rising from my bed

Remembering the words I said

A few short hours ago

~

Like linens hanging on the line

The clouds a comfort for my eyes

In secrets whispered on the skies

Along with breezes flow

~

I wonder of this time apart

As longings cling so tight my heart

In gilded frame like precious art

The sun comes into view

~

When then my open eyes can see

The man that I can surely be

If only you would come to me

Whatever I must do

~

With endless trees and hills to climb

My aches, my pains on borrowed time

The distant church bells set to chime

The miles in between

~

I follow on in destined task

Is it too much for me to ask

Replace the smile, remove the mask

If you know what I mean

~

To stumble on the crooked path

And weep these tears of aftermath

For comes the heat of summer wrath

In everything so new

~

I wander here and wander there

In hopes to show you that I care

With you my dreams I long to share

Until my days are through

Think that's my favorite part but the rhyme scheme too. Impressive. Very impressive. IT flows so well.

I enjoyed this rhyme scheme in which you told your story of love over distant spaces. There are many miles between lovers in the State of Texas. I've traveled those distances in the past while on vacations. "99 miles to LA" too ( remember that song? ). Your lines seem to follow correct eight syllable meter 0/0/0/0/

Time and distance separates many who long to rewind past love. And we are left with all the thoughts and regrets.

Oh, the miles between two souls can be farther than circumnavigating the globe, sometimes, even when we are in the same space together. I love this piece in terms of the metaphorical significance of "distance". We all travel paths, and we all say or do things that we regret or question, but life still moves forward. Your words are beautiful, my friend. I love the depth of emotion in this one...great stuff.
