Choices

Choices

A Poem by Jack...

Choices

Shadows move on sheet rock barriers

framed in time of late

Spaces filled with unknown visions

dance about with feet of clay

Gowns of nightmare carpetbaggers

thunder on the floor

Drippings in a mist of nervous breath

blanket my safe haven

and the sounds scream

in voices of past mishaps

Lost in lonely corridors,

wailing on aching skylights

permitting barely a moon glow psalm

to echo of their meaning

in songs from a distance,

of pleading skeletal desire

“I fear for I have no choice”

Doorways yawn in weary ovations

Slanted photos dot the landscape

Windows prove little relief from the cold

as heat pierces my cavities

Gaping wounds of frail memories

clutch at my last ounce,

measuring the words I am reading

Taking a breath, sweet, stagnant

Clawing for an exit only to find

it has stood before me all along

Baby steps, I have been told

Find that trust, slowly…make sure,

reach out for the hand

offered on a dreamscape message

“I fear for I have no choice?”

Eyes, so tired, weeping pools

out of focus since that day, open

(As if sunflowers float on silken wings

and glorious becomes an understood word)

slowly and tentatively,

blinking sorrow’s pathway free

to lead me to you

The imprint of that butterfly

marks my palm in red lines of love,

mapping my skin with a long awaited

smile, dry lips curve as I take your hand

trusting, for the very first time

realizing the feeling

which has finally…set me free

“I no longer fear, for I have a choice”

Freedom allows for choice, and so often we feel trapped without the ability to choose. I felt this snippet of history to be quite powerful:

Gowns of nightmare carpetbaggers
thunder on the floor

They came on the heels of emancipation with ill intents. Nice touch.

Thank you so very much Anne. You always make me smile with your kind words.
A touching piece that relates to us , that choice one tries to make is never easy, well done, good read.

Thank you so much Thomas. I am happy you chose to read this. :)
I really enjoyed this poem. Life is all about the path and choice you make, either you are or you aren't. At the end of the day you have to stay true to yourself and know you feel about things. Be good with the "now" not " later".

If we were all the same all looked perfect, it wouldn't be right. this poem to me is saying in between the lines that there is no perfect. We are all suppose to be different.

Very poignant writing, helps inspire one to reflect.

I love your use of concepts within the lines. Mr. Khalil has described it in a way I never could but I agree with his review. There are so many lines here that stand out. I have become intimidated reading a few poets here and you are one. (Laughs) Beautifully as well as imaginatively done.

I have felt the narrator's journey from hardships of being a carpetbagger in love trying to sell his wares in a hostile region and taking baby steps to gain their trust and making them see that dreamscape messages are real which we have to hold on to faith and see the light at the end of corridors of despair...A great poem...:).............

My pleasure...Any time...:).............
So many great lines here Jack I don't know where to start.

"Gowns of nightmare carpetbaggers" &

"permitting barely a moon glow psalm
to echo of their meaning"

...stood out for me the most and set the tone for the killer imagery here. Glad you ended on a high note my friend! I feel like be belting out 'set me free why dontcha babe' for some reason if I could only carry a tune. Amazing as always.
