Beethoven is for the Birds

Beethoven is for the Birds

A Poem by Danny Mehmedi

Beethoven is for the Birds

So this bird outside my window,
is an aspiring musician
The evidence is undeniable
FOR EXAMPLE....
Upon overhearing the
Appassionata
(That's spanish for passionate sonata)
he metered his song
in an unnatural
common time
Practicing these illusive regular rhythms
over and over
obsessively
purposelessly
you! who defy gravity
galvanized by a melody?
child in the treetops
homesick for tonality?
Dopesick for a cadence?
He will never build a nest
out of his hard-earned do-re-mi
but he's my favorite modern composer
if only for his sincerity
we are both up late
because neither of us ever cared much for
the taste of worms
