Rightfully Yours

Rightfully Yours

A Poem by Margret Sent

A king, all powerful and strong
With subjects who adored you and thought you could do no wrong
Blessed with a kingdom and land so vast
You thought your reign would forever last

You ruled justly and brought prosperity to your people
You defended the weak and the poor on all occasions
They truly did love you, you were every bit of a loving king to them
But you could never put up a good front, the truth will catch up to you in the end

Yes, you never had anything but good intentions
You could be forgiven because you had your own reasons
But you weren't the rightful heir to the throne
But even with that, God has never left you alone

The throne here is not the one you get along with the crown
What is meant is your whole life where God should sit down
You sit on that thrown and follow your own rules
When in fact it's His and His alone

You could have been perfect as a king in all your earthly ways
But you've never been complete because you didn't allow Him to stay
He kept on watching you, knocking on your door
All you have to do is accept Him, and be with Him forevermore

You keep on fighting your demons
You know you can't do it alone
But drunk in your own pride
You refuse to even let God inside

You had the finest armor and the best sword, but it was no use
You're scarred, broken, wounded and bruised
This was supposed to be a battle for you to lose
But you fell so many times, it should be a shame on you

You had to be defeated for you to finally know
That even your highness would end up this low
You first have to be alone to know what's missing in your life
And that is God who's never left your side

Give Him the throne of your life, and you'll see wonders
This is not only for now but it lasts forever
You were a king, all powerful and strong
And now you could rejoice with your people and with Him who'll never ever leave you alone

Is this a Prodigal Son's stuff? I should say, yes. This poem oozes with conviction. Alas, there is no determination to bring up the rear of thoughts and wishes here. I love the simplicity. Isn't life beautiful that way?

Yes, life is indeed beautiful.
It's not about a prodigal son, but that would work fine, too.
