Adrift

A Poem by jasonpaisley
"

Was browsing through pictures on a dating site and this just came out. Wrote it in about an hour while listening to my muse. The Cure's masterwork Disintegration.

"

may i be so bold
can i say what's in my mind
for i can't hold
the impression inside
that i get from the images of you
you see i don't think anyone tries
no one sees deeply anymore
no one opens themselves up anymore
i won't live that way
so i have no qualms and no restraint
i will speak my feelings and not hesitate
so don't think that i am being anything but sincere
i speak with the purest intent and i hope it's clear
this image of you that speaks so plainly to me
day after day we see concealed hearts
and people fight to the end not to let anyone see
they view love as a weakness and beauty becomes superficial
i see things as they should be
and it is a beauty like yours that inspires me
when i gaze into this image of you i see what i can scarcely say
i see that which i must openly praise
your eyes reveal an inner strength
with quiet dignity and so much love within
they hide a hundred tears and a thousand hopes
a wish for a better way and peace at days end
when you smile i know it's because of the love
that others feel reflected from your deeds
and then i understand why i become adrift
because i find something like that in me
i think you understand
something so small says so much
if you look just deeper still
open your heart and your mind
and abandon pride and will
take a bit of time to see what i find
in the people you see each day
then you'll have found a love that flows unconditionally
that will inspire all like your beauty inspires me
