Dreams

Dreams

A Poem by Kermit Gildersleeve
"

A dream of mine.

"

Sorrow fills my heart oftimes

Because I am an Astronaut

But only in my dreams

I look up to the Blue-Black

Dome of the Sky

See the thousand glistening pinpricks

The Mottled disc of the moon

Feel the light of a million Alien worlds on my face

And I dream

I see pictures in books

Of the beauties of the void

Nebulae, Novae, Quasars and clouds

The distant fragile spirals

of far-away galaxies,

And my soul aches

I dream of a ship, not of steel

but wood, sails, and rigging

with which I could travel

The cold trackless deeps

But I hang my head in sorrow

For I know my dreams are but Dreams

That cannot come true

I am bound to Earth

And can only Travel the stars

In my heart

and a beautiful dream it is when one can travel in ships of yesteryear

and float among the stars~ such beautiful poetic expression in your

words~ filled with lovely descriptives taking the reader to another

time and place~THanks for sharing~

Good imagery. I felt the tug in my soul as I read your poem.

Well done!

I too would love to travel the stars and do so in my dreams.

What is in our hearts can be as real or more so than what many call 'reality'.
