Haunted Halloween

Haunted Halloween

A Poem by Lady Scarlet Valuten

There’s a chill in the wintry air
I shivered as the wind howled through my hair
I looked up at a Harvest Moon sitting high in Her black throne
I jumped in fright for I thought I had heard a hollow moan
Leaves crunched and crackled under my feet
And from far away I heard a voice on the wind say ‘Trick or Treat?’
A lone wolf howled a sad and desolate tune at the moon
It sounds so far yet so near
I’d give anything to be anywhere, but here
However I had to hurry
Before Midnight I had to be at the cemetery
I soon made it to the iron gate
As my thoughts turned cold and filled with hate
My feet automatically seek your grave
While I assure all the evil spirits and sprites
That just for tonight I’ll try to behave
I sit down beside your marble tombstone
Shivering for the night had chilled me to the bone
Tears glisten in my eyes
As I look at the Harvest Moon
Sitting high upon Her majestic black throne
And laugh as I hear the ghoul’s and goblin’s evil cries
Their words haunt my soul to this very day
As they act out your death like it’s a play
“Soon dear child you will be ready
You will have gathered everything you need
You will learn your spells to raise the dead
You need only wait until next Halloween.”
