In a Short While

In a Short While

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

Never let go, for you are worth it.

"
Close your eyes
Take a deep breath my child
Hold on for just another short while.

Frail but wise
Beyond your sad few years
Taught to sit there and take it and cry.

Misery and strife
They mean everything to you, define you
But for now you are alive.

You blench and wail in pain
As the yelling bursts your ear drums
And he prepares to strike again.

Yet the hand never arrives
And you watch as your brother falls in a heap of limbs
Because of your father, a mere toddler dies.

Bruised in areas the concourse will never see
Breathing heavy amounts of tobacco and alcohol
And bleeding internally as you fall to your knees, screaming.

Indeed
Why you, child, why you?
Why you or your brother or anyone else? Why?

But you mustn't fret any longer
Because I will hold you and raise you higher
Ascending towards your opportunity to conquer eternal peace.

And know this, dear little one,
Your father will get his retribution
And you and I can be dead but live on strong.

So close your eyes
Take a deep breath my child
Hold on for just another short while.
Soon you wont have to be alone.
