A Recipe for PoetryA Poem by Riley Bray10/30/14Produce a pen, ink trapped inside Collect the blank papers rudely brushed aside Give the story a thought, Give it spirit, give it heart; Now, start, Jot. Through skillful technique Make the lines speak Let them be dangerous, delicate, descriptive: Cut the crap and write with honesty, The best work comes subconsciously Let each vowel be addictive. Scream your soul’s soliloquies Vividly through imagery, and a writer’s natural abilities. And at the epitome let it go Let it escape into a penned reality, Where you may forget the world’s crass formality Where I, the poet, the seeker and the humble speaker choose to let it flow
