Soldier Boy

Soldier Boy

A Poem by Riley Bray
"

5/4/15 For my friend Derwin

"
Soldier boy
Up on the hill
Please speak to me
I know you will

Soldier boy
Down in the grass
Please hide for me
Just let this pass

Soldier boy
You lay there in your bench
Missing home
From in the trench

Soldier boy
We miss you too
Hoping you come home
And you're still you

Soldier boy
The battles drawing near
Pick up your guns
Don't shed a tear

Soldier boy
My friend
You have much here
To defend
You're up in arms with wounds to tend

But soldier boy
I understand why you did
You're a great person
With lots to give
So long as you
Come back alive
I'll look past
Your willingness to die
But please
Let go of your fear
No matter what
We will still love you here
No matter what
We miss you dearly
