today i rose, to pull apart my petals.

today i rose, to pull apart my petals.

A Poem by jenniewren (J.W. Bouwman)

today i rose, to pull apart my petals
cataloguing the colour change
from blues to greens, soft pale pinks to a gentle dove grey
noting each frayed edge
each sign of a skirmish lost, or even rarer, won

i caressed each petal as it left my form
giving reverence
to the gossamer strength encapsulating me
i traced my fingers along the veins of my years
(the only true way to tell a person's age
you know
not unlike the rings of a tree)
and smiled at what i found there..

in every fall, in every success,
in every deepest dark moment
or time of lightest glee
i found the thread that sewed them all together
and it was simply:

love

the hope of love,
the giving of love,
the chase of love,
the finding of love..

in all the things i ever could have hoped
for the life that i would live;
in all the things i could have found
hidden amidst the layering folds of petals;
in all the worlds ever to be unknown to me;
love is the culprit of my existence

i can only smile for the joy of it

today i rose, to pull apart my petals.*poem* sound bite

This was a beauty. You have created an inspiration for optimism. I read this poem, but I honestly lost sight of you at the end. I saw you at first, but then you transformed into a metaphor for the entire world. There is still hope for all of us, even though a few leaders wish for hate to exist forever. There is a duality in the interpretation. I love how you can relate to it in many ways, but still come to the same conclusion in the end. I think that's superb communication. When interpreting yourself as a metaphor..we are not spoon fed any thoughts to do so. That is what I think makes this poem special. I admire a writer that can inspire thought with a design that does not make the person feel led by the hand.

love is not just an emotion, it can also be a type of relationship; Aristotle insisted that (friendly) love always involves mutual awareness and mutual good will; while any account of love needs to make room for loves that are unrequited or directed at objects which cannot reciprocate (infants, some animals) or do not do so clearly (God), in friendly and romantic/erotic love, the refusal to conceive of love in relational terms is a defect in some instances of erotic love, in which the loved object is indeed treated as an object, to be possessed and immobilized. Although Marcel Proust believed that such projects were essential to erotic love, but I doubt this. I liked the poetic expression in this piece of tenderness.

I agree with what has been written so far and I am glad to have been brought here to read it... You words are delicate and smooth, like the petals, and the lovely idea of the threads of life creating such a beatitude garment of praise, sown out of love and held together by love is both pretty and endearing... the joy is a delight

This write of yours jennie is SUPER AMAZING...i mean i just don't know how to put my awe for you and your art in words...this i write is so very gentle and introspective and it touches me just as each and every write of yours has....i am sure everyone who reads this will relate to this....the theme you have chosen is just so right...i am sure some more years of my existence and i would be quoting the lines from this poem...
oh oh jennie i am so excited to read this that i can go on...the words are just so right...*hugs
what is life but an endless search for love....it never seems to end and yet each little disappointment ironically keeps on making you hope for more.
