the interior hermit.

the interior hermit.

A Poem by jenniewren (J.W. Bouwman)

the reality is
i live inside my mind
pacing the halls of my psyche
laughing with the memories of love
it's comfortable in here
all soft chairs and
gentle blanketcaresses
adoring words and
smoothly silken remembrances
here, whenever i need them most

i've covered my walls with warmth
painted over my shuttered windows
with idyllic scenes of a life i want to have
draping each softly rounded corner
with rich tapestries of coloured days
peopling my inner sanctum
with the ghosts of those i love
(but cannot have -
for a myriad of reasons)
i've become adept
at gilding my cage
with happiness

for it is a cage
make no mistake about that
its bars are stronger
than any substance known to man

i know this
because i built them myself
and i never do things by halves

I too live within my mind. Memories are always there to comfort me when I need a smile of a laugh but with that comes the memories that haunt me and make me long for the things that will never be or won't be anytime soon. My fantasy world is a great place until reality tries to destroy it. You have captured what it is like when you live within your own mind and create a hidden world for you to find comfort when the real world can't give you solace.

Great piece. Our innards are either our besties or our worsties...our playgrounds or our inner hells. Fantastic read...love the smooth flow. Love the last line "and i never do things by halves" Great job!

Sometimes we need those places of retreat, and yours is so beautiful, and bars do not a prison make, great work indeed

I love when poetry intersects the heart and reality

Heavy sigh.....this was wonderfully written , but makes my heart sink below sea level. Treading water is not like work when you know someone is coming to rescue you, but if you don't there is a larger propensity to give up...tread on.....
