I Remember the Day I First Fell in Love

A Poem by jennilouhoo

I remember the day I first fell in love.
it was March- the first warm day of Spring
I didn't need a jacket
I had your hand to keep mine warm
the sun's rays danced off every shining surface
your eyes were crystal
and your smile inviting
I couldn't look away

I remember the day I knew I was in love-
and would never fall out.
It was the first day of summer vacation
school was over and all our cares were gone
over Chinese food and a trip to the park
I realized your smile was the only thing keeping me afloat
walking the nature trail in the waning sunlight
I could still see the sparkle in your eyes
we stayed in the park long past dusk
just talking
and falling even more in love

I remember the day I knew you were mine.
It was the middle of summer
we went to the car show and walked around the lake
in the back room of the shed
we kissed until our lips were raw
and sweat beaded on our brows
intertwined in each other's arms
we laid on the dirty floor
whispering confessions of love and hope
with your head in my lap
you closed your eyes and smiled
from that moment on
I swore I'd do anything to keep you smiling

Every moment since and in between
are all colored with fairy tale perfection
and sweet sentimentalities
your voice, like velvet,
is the soundtrack of my summer, fall
and every season for the rest of forever
your eyes, your smile
are branded behind my eyes
I couldn't ever forget the way you look at me,
or hold me at night
or say my name
afterall, memories are the only things
that last long after life
