New Laces (A Love Poem)

New Laces (A Love Poem)

A Poem by Jessica Harmony
"

meant for spoken word

"

The other day I bought new laces and my old shoes they lit up their scuffed faces,

And they fit together hand in hand; they didn’t discriminate because of the brand,

And they didn’t think about color or style

They fit together like me and you, despite the miles.

And this is really a love poem and I don’t know how to say this but,

You make me feel like an old shoe with new laces,

Like crooked teeth that just got braces,

And when your arms are around me,

Like a pillow with one of those fuzzy pillow cases.

But, you’re 1,809 miles away.

I would walk to you in my old shoes and new laces but,

I’m not allowed.

So instead I’ll write these words for you.

Just wrap them around yourself like a blanket, or new laces around a shoe.

Carry them in your pocket like loose change,

Every time you read them you’ll feel changed and

I know I feel changed by you,

Just like brand new laces, on an old shoe.
