Death

Death

A Poem by jsteelers24
"

a man's last thoughts before dying in the war

"
Death

In my last moment
I beg for death

Death
some fear it
some wish for it
something so serene
that it is terrifying
but humans are curious

Death
I wish for it
when my pain will leave

Pain
some say emotional
is worse than physical
they are ignorant
of my current feeling

Blood
flowing everywhere
especially here
men falling dead
trying to shut it out

Death
has it come?
no
I still feel pain
maybe
I am in hell

War
I live in it
I killed so many
Why shouldn't I be in hell?

Death
finally comes
I leave the war
the pain
the sadness
the blood
the struggle against insanity

Death
indescribable
if you are curious
find out yourself

Fantastic poem. Truly beautiful insight into a soldier's final thoughts. Just an idea, feel free to ignore it, but you could work the first word of each stanza into a pattern. Maybe every second one could begin with 'death'? (eg: Pain..., death..., blood..., death..., war..., death..., etc.) I think having it recur like that would make the theme of death feel more omnipresent and relentless. Just a thought, feel free to keep it how it is
