A Lone Tree

A Lone Tree

A Poem by Lauren Emmons
"

Trees can get lonely.

"
A lone tree
sits among the middle of a field,
its leaves longing for friends
to talk to
and to cheer with.
Its branches
reaching into nothingness,
grasping on to the air around them.
Its trunk
stuck like a fork into grass,
heavy,
and lonely,
and begging for attention.
This tree is friendless,
and hopeless,
but finds comfort
being the center of attention
by not trees,
but the also lonely wind,
in that big, barren field.

I like the symbolism of the lonely tree. That it reaches but is anchored, never to move on its own. This is very true for many people, stuck in there world and ways(the grass field). Would have like to see a positive twist at the end, afterall trees make oxygen and fruits and such. But the close of the lonely wind was also very symbolic of live that brings and takes what it wants. Great write.

This is very good. I think the focus on nature is a good shift in tone and the personification, if a little expected, is nicely done. I think there could have been room to expand, but as it stands the piece is very readable. Good work.
