Guilty Grapes

Guilty Grapes

A Poem by JacJak
"

Should have read the bag...

"

Putting the gallon of milk back in the fridge,

My eyes caught a bag of grapes that had just been rinsed

And in my greed, I quickly grabbed the bag before momma could say no.

I tried to rip away a small portion off the vine

But they wouldn’t come quick enough

So in popped grape after grape, piling on top of each other in the pouches of my cheeks.

Zipping the bag closed, the grapes went back into the fridge

I bit down

Chewing, in greed

And in vain

Because these had crunchy seeds!

I chew too greedily and tasted the grapes along with their sour seeds,

Ruining the taste, I leaned over the sink in attempt to spit out

The sour seeds without spitting grapes

But the sharp, bitter taste was too much

And out came everything that I had not already swallowed whole

When one is greedy life turns into sour grapes.

Aah, I had to read this twice to grasp why on earth you would write a poem about grapes...
But what this poem says is true; greed results in disappointment.

Great poem. Very simple; I like it. (:
