Things We Both Know

A sort of rant to my partner (I l...like you)

I wish you could see yourself through my eyes

Sit inside my head and watch a day with you

You could gaze through my eyes into yours and see the light that, 

somehow,

still lives there

You are incredibly strong and I know you don't always feel it

but I could see it the first day I met you

We have the same sense of humor 

the same morbid wonder

sarcastic wit

We have the same maturity 

the kind that comes with a short childhood

shredded young and left to put it all back together

I know you'll have bad days 

I know you'll push me away

I know you'll there will be times you can't look at me 

and that's ok

I'll be the same

I'll have those days too

I'll dig in deeper cause I know it ends

We were hurt in different ways

but when I look in your eyes I see a kindred spirit

spending their life trying to bend themselves into something someone can love

never looking into the mirror because you never know whose looking back

When I'm with you I can see myself

I feel like you've been here as long as I can remember

your back against mine so I could never really see you 

Our bodies will age and our minds will fade

we'll get mad and fight

I'll tell you to leave me, 

they'll make you happy like I never could

I want you in my life 

be it as a lover or a friend

I'm here for the good and the bad

I hope you are too
